So I officially started my new position on Monday, but I have 0 training for it, so they're going to send me to the Little Apple next week to learn all the lovely things I need to know for it. In the meantime, I'm kind of half twiddling my thumbs, half doing busy work. There's a new receiving manager (she will be my direct boss) and I have a neutral positive opinion based on first impressions, she's showing me some things that I can do with my current knowledge and letting me have free reign over other stuff so I can make lists of what can and what needs to be done.
Thing is, she's in the middle of rearranging the entire back room again, so to keep me out of the way or from making any major mistakes, she's just having me do some cleanup of some areas that would take way more time to do than she can realistically dedicate time for....like the security tag rack...and the supply cabinet in the training room...and the safety binder...and the safety walk. And by about 11AM this morning, it's hitting me like a truck not only how much responsibility I have in my position, but how much power I have. No joke, I'm just going up to each department to ask how many security tags they want me to save for them when we finally clear and ship out the mountain we've accumulated, and the second the realize I'm talking to them, their faces go white, and I have to frantically explain that everything's fine and no one's in trouble!
I even went up to the Ops Lead (she used to be over me when I worked up front as a cashier lead) to ask if she had a few minutes so I could show her how to enter/delete people from the register system, because she asked me about it the day before, and she genuinely. Seriously. Was asking me what the plan was for up front. And I kid you not it took me a good 30 seconds to respond because I had no idea what she was talking about.

I think I'm going to have to work extra hard to keep a positive relationship with everyone in the store, especially the team leads, because while being feared is alluring for a villain, it's not the kind of villain I aspire to be. Plus I don't know nearly enough to actually cause any massive stirups yet, so everyone should still feel comfortable for a while. At least I hope...

Gods beyond, what hath I gotten myself into...?

Go for the sweater look if you want to be less intimating. Positive relationships are not that hard to maintain if you're kind. However, the real thing is being genuine. If you screw up, own up to it. Always to keep to your word as best as you can as well. If you're someone who can keep a cool head and listen to the people below you, then you will do just fine.

Love the panel and loving where we're heading UwU
