Making dumb decisions

So...in a very brief, yet not entirely unpredictable, bit of spontaneity I decided it would be a great idea to start learning Icelandic. Since I plan on using runes and staves for another project of mine, and especially since I saved a page of onomatopoeias specifically for that purpose, I thought "Hey! Why not go the extra mile and learn some of the language too!"
So I went searching.

And I have learned 4 things about Icelandic so far:
_-1-_ Natives of Iceland evolve their language on the daily. And LOVE messing with tourists that are genuinely trying to learn how to speak their language. It's all in good fun, and they acknowledge it's a little ridiculous, but don't care to stop because it's basically their tradition by this point.
_-2-_ Apparently it is one of the most difficult languages to learn for most English speakers
_-3-_ Most nordic languages sound similar enough for general conversation to be understood without knowing the exact context from translation (Finnish being excluded, as it's root language is from a different family tree entirely)
and _-4-_ It is IMPOSSIBLE to find good source material for learning this. Most language learning apps don't even include Danish or Norwegian, but Swedish is on there! Every. Single. Source that I found even remotely related to it was either a dead-end-probably-a-scam, a book on how to read -and the history of- viking runes, and yet another translated copy of the Hávamál.

I did manage to find one small obscure app that had vocab words, so I'm using that to the fullest I can, and it's really cute. I know almost 20 words so far (because it only lets me use it for 5 minutes a day)
There are some texts on grammar and colloquialisms, so I might check them out at some point; but for now, I'll settle for the folk tales book and a really nice pre-cristian era grimoire I found.
Now to wait a month for it to get here....
